About me

My name is Ben Durfee.

I am from St. Louis, Missouri.

I mostly work with wood and sometimes stones that I have scavenged/collected around where I live or places I have visited.  My artistic style floats in and out of being abstract and is always changing.

I am really interested in creating a sense of fluid movement in a lot of what I create and draw inspiration from the time I have spent around the ocean and mountains.

Some artists I admire include Katsushika Hokusai for his beautiful wood block prints and Hayao Miyazaki for his ability to capture movement in each frame of his stories.

Outside of my artistic endeavors I am a dad to two awesome girls and married to my best friend and most caring person I know.  When I’m not carving or spending time with my family, you can always find me skateboarding, snowboarding (weather permitting), building Lego sets, or reading. (I’m a huge Tolkien fan)

Side note:

A lot of the background photos you see on my page that are not of my art are from Little Compton, Rhode Island. This is a place that I grew up going to every year and draw a lot of inspiration from so I thought it would be a nice accent to my page.
