Lunar Dude was carved from a cross section of a tree. I started by shaping the wood into a crescent and spent the evenings on our trip to Michigan carving the face with hand tools. Later I created the craters with rotary burrs. The last thing I added more recently is a chain to hang him from with a bead I got from a Michigan based artist named Nori Obata.
